Dancing Along Queen Street West

The opening preamble to Dawson’s small collection of personal poems reads: “To many struggling artists, the gleaming video wall at City/Much/Bravo and the grim stone fence of the Queen Street Mental Health Centre signify boundaries of success and failure as well as the physical limits of the Queen St. West community. I’ve been a breath away from being accepted into both institutions but mainly I’ve lived, worked and played somewhere between the two extremes.” There you have it. Dawson’s poetry marks out its own place with arresting images from exploding asteroids to PVC, depicting the heartache, pain, despair, lust and ecstasy of many a struggling artist.
