Current

Current

Michelle can write well, which is a good thing since Current is nothing but her writings. She seems to require space to be at her best, though, which means the shorter pieces here tend to be the weakest. I barely understood a word of her piece on zine modernism. The bits on Athens, Georgia and sadness are space-fillers, and the planetary polygamy page – while sweet – is pointless. But her long pieces on a cross-country bus trip and on a Wooden Stars concert more than compensate. They may not be of earth-shaking importance, but they’re warm and funny, and we get to know Michelle, which seems to be a pleasant thing to do. (KR)
