Cold Hands Dead Heart

“Cold Hands Dead Heart” features a series of tongue-in-cheek bon mots, double entendres and assorted mean-spirited stabs at political figures. The drawings are furry, as a friend of mine would have said-shaky lines that could use a little cleaning up-but this is a style, not an error, and there are people out there who ust love this type of thing. I must admit, I am not one of them. I do respect those who can be clever, and poke fun at dignitaries-who doesn’t-and I am enough of a smartass that I can appreciate that quality in others, so I managed to put aside my own feelings and focus on the task at hand: providing an objective view of this zine. Is it a comic? Is it art? is it humour? Is it political satire? Is it the demented schoolbook doodles of an angry teen? From what I see, it could be all of the above. A lot of work went into “Cold Hands Dead Heart,” that much is obvious-regardless of how much good ol’ maree-jayne may or may not have been smoked by the creator, at the time of the creation, or whether he had even bothered to put on outerwear, that day. Juvenile? Yes, indeed. Irreverent? You bet. Full of talent? Yes, that too. (Andree Lachapelle)
