Cities and Committees

Cities and Committees

Sutton has an impressively strange voice that unifies and sanctifies this collection of absurd fictions. His way of describing things and animating his characters allows his stories to live not just in our world, but also in a special Sutton place where millennial committees meet over shots of vodka to discuss the celebrations; meanwhile, in another room, the urban beautification committee is arguing about feng shui; across the city, a man chats with a stranger while they wait for a jazz band to start playing. A subtle, surreal collection that is also remarkably well written and accomplished. Check this out. (HN)
