Ballad of the Two-Headed Boy

The despondent little two-headed boy has lost his joie de vivre. He’s homeless and cannot make any decisions to get himself on track. So one head decides to cut out the other head’s tongue. Things still do not improve, then he gets hit by a car. The mute head pops off. Things are still looking down. He wanders the impressively-drawn futuristic streets with one head, homeless and lonely. This sad, beautifully drawn little cartoon will not make you laugh, not even once. It’s an impressive, self-published creation by a Chicago artist who works with pen and ink to create darkish, scratchy night scenes filed with highway underpasses and elevated subway rails. Suffice it to say that the ending involves lots of garbage – I won’t give the rest away. (Emily Pohl-Weary)
