Apollosenses

Absolutely, totally worth the money! Once I got over the blah, black and white photocopied images, and into the heart of the text, couldn’t pry myself away. I utterly enjoyed reading about the Vancouver art and literary scene, despite recognizing only a few names. Descriptions are clear and informative; it’s not at all about name dropping and providing hermetic references only people in a small part of Vancouver might understand. The magazine seems to have a fairly clear vision that includes covering artists working in diverse media (ie. not measured on marketable success). While the flipping back and forth to find where articles continued was over-the-top, it reminded me a lot more of TV channel surfing than other literary formats. Enjoyed the article on Beck. Loved “The Culture of Poetry” by Tim Lander, both crude and insightful, certainly with conviction: “…The loss of a facility such as the Glass Slipper, (accidentally torched), becomes a major irreplaceable loss to our culture. Regardless of the creation of any number of ‘General Foods Centers for the Performing Arts’.” It’s also FUNNY! (PVP)
