Antisocial Science

Roman T. has been making freaked out comics for a while now, but this is one of the first zines I’ve seen of his that gives equal play to his poetry. Unfortunately, the tendencies toward the surreal, angry, and angular in his illustrations come off in his poetry as manic rambling. Here’s a rhyming sample: “Everybody wants to be a copy tonight/Please be kind, and remember to rewind/Or we’ll come to your house with our special equipment, and fuck-up your mind.” Meanwhile, his illustrations embody a perverse poetics that requires few words. A drooling pig-dog clutching a hotdog says, simply, “don’t let the cold cuts getcha down.” It works, somehow. (HN)
