Air Traffic Control

Air Traffic Control has a fairly commercial pop-rock sound tailored to fit the formats of most “alternative” radio stations and the teenage tabernacle that is MuchMusic. Most of their songs rely on a simple formula of heavy bass, staccato guitar riffs, and the slightly indignant, over-emoted vocals so popular amongst today’s faux-punk adherents. The three Comstock brothers -Luke, Jordi, and Kirk- have been making music for a few years now, and their experience shows. Unfortunately, it also means they often sound too slick and polished to my jaded ears and whilst I’m sure they will enjoy success as musicians, I can’t bring myself to endorse this album to anyone above the age of 19. That said, this would probably make an excellent Christmas present for your teenaged sister. (Karyn Bonham)
