A Reader’s Guide to the Underground Press

This is the best zine review zine still being published out of the US. The reviews in there are completely honest, and they’ll review everything they receive, contrary to other review zines that concentrate on the good reviews. Bad zines get bad reviews, and sometimes there’s a lot of venom going down. I think it’s important that people doing bad zines get negative criticism, because a lot of people are too shy to give that kind of reality check. On top of the reviews, there is a compilation of free-speech related news, a long letters section, and a few columns. In this issue, Jeff Sommers writes about the three types of people that publish zines and Derelict Caterwaul writes about her relationship with trash. Zine-related resources, like a bad distributors list, classifieds and US Postal rates beef this up. This issue of ARG was much delayed after former editor Doug Holland decided to throw the towel. Thankfully, long-time contributor Jerianne picked up where Doug left and wrote about how things came to be this way. This is an extremely good resource for zine publishers and zine readers alike.
