A Cette Dame

I think if Becky Johnson went into stand up comedy, she would actually be one of the people who succeed. She’s funny because she doesn’t try to be. She’s just herself! (It’s revolutionary.) Each zine (tied with white string at the spine) has a charming recipe of one page vignettes, where the typewritten story has no beginning or end. They’re like speech bubbles but out of order, not unlike childhood-memories-meet-hardcover-fairytales-meet-Hubba-Bubba-comics-meets-Becky’s-outside-voice. If I saw her playing at recess, I’d give her my squishy dino gummies. “They’ll be sorry. They’ll all be sorry when I am a GIANT,” she thought. Yes, they will indeed. (Nadja Sayej)
