This is possibly the best publication to come out of the new wave of riot grrrl zines. Article topics cover a lot of ground within the feminist movement, including using the word cunt, Chinese footbinding, women writing zines, a rape survivor’s story, anorexia, and more. There are two articles aimed at men that deal with men’s attitudes towards women. On the musical side, there’s an interview with JP5, a follow-up to last issue’s article on NOFX and the replies they received about it, an article by Chris from Propagandhi (a bit of a rehashing of things he said before, but still totally cool) and lots of smart music reviews, which feature cool lyrics at the end of them. There are good book and movie reviews. The layout is really neat, with lots of good feminist art, stolen left and right, and art taken from Jim Mahfood’s Grrl Scouts comic. So much cool and smart writing in its 96 pages: “…most Western girls probably know how to make themselves throw up but I wonder how many can get themselves off? Cuz I know how to make myself throw up easy, but orgasm is still tricky…” Men and women alike should get this girl-positive zine. (FA)
