The King Street Alternative Film and Video Festival

Broken Pencil is pleased to be sponsoring the 3rd annual King Street Alternative Film and Video Festival, happening February 8th and 9th at Betty’s (240 King Street East) in Toronto.

The festival is a twice-yearly event with screenings in winter and summer, and it’s a submissions-based showcase of short films and avant-garde video art. While the bulk of participating filmmakers have been from Toronto, the festival has screened works from across Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Genres include video art, alternative comedy, horror, documentary, queer cinema, cartoons and more.

Past screenings have included  Canadian Comedy Award-nominated short “The Test” by Ron Sparks and Kevin MacDonald and “Cool Guys” by Winnipeg exploitation filmmakers Astron-6. The festival, which is free to attend, prides itself on its small and active audience, which creates an informal and participatory atmosphere. We’ll be there with magazines, swag and maybe some popcorn to share. Yay indie film!
