Jonathan’s Pick: Wendy’s Revenge

wendys-revenge

It’s no secret that we at Broken Pencil are pretty obsessed with Wendy — Walter Scott’s comic about a quintessential art bitty to whom we all can relate. After all, we did have a cover story about the first book, and we were so stoked to have him do a comics workshop at Canzine Toronto this year!  So we knew we were going to love the second collection of the comic from Koyama Press, but even we weren’t ready for how awesome Wendy’s Revenge really is.

It’s a bit more episodic than the first collection, seeing Wendy travel city to city in search of success in an evil and conniving art world, peace of mind and, ya know, dick. But it also centres the stories of Winona, Wendy’s best friend, and overall has a vibe of girl-power-when-it-counts.

I keep lending out my copy of Wendy and then having to buy new ones, so I’m holding close to my copy of Wendy’s Revenge for now. But hey, you should totally go buy a copy or seven! Also, check out these dispatches of more recent comics made for the Montreal biennale, including post-election freak out Wendy, from the Wendycore tumblr:
