International Short Story Day – New Fiction

Today is International Short Story Day – the first International Short Story Day – appropriately timed, as tonight is going to be shortest night of the year. Last December, the UK held an exclusive national short story day, marking the brevity in daylight hours. But this time around the gates are open, and everyone can get in on some action.

In honor of ISSD, Broken Pencil is offering up two stories for your reading pleasure. First, we dig into the archives for a ditty by our spring Issue cover girl, Emma Healey. Check out her story Last Winter Here, a semi-finalist in our first ever Deathmatch.

The second is a new online exclusive. For a celebration themed after night time hours, we give you a night time story. It’s based around the kink scene in Red Deer Alberta, and how people truly come out when the sun is down.
