MONTREAL

Monday November 5, 7-8:30pm, Local Legends Reading Series: Rae Spoon, Concordia Co-op Bookstore, 2150 Bishop Street

Montreal-based musician and author Rae Spoon will be reading from their first novel, First Spring Grass Fire, at the Concordia Co-op Bookstore. This first book by Rae is a candid, powerful story about a young person growing up queer in a strict Pentecostal family in Alberta.

Mansfield Press invites you to celebrate the launch of its fall 2012 list, with poetry by Jason Heroux and Jim Smith and novels by Paula Eisenstein and Sarah Dearing.

Featuring a three-round poetry slam (Come out to compete or watch) and limited open mic available. Featuring a  special educator, writer and activist from Baltimore, Maryland Chris August.

EDMONTON

Friday November 9, 7pm, Opening Night: Visions of Comics 2012 Launch, Happy Harbour Comics, 10729-104 Ave, food bank donations accepted

14 Edmonton creators present their interpretations of the theme of the sequential narrative of comics with more than 25 inspired pieces of art. The opening night features a wine and cheese meet and greet with the artists along with special presentations from Blair Brennan, the current Writer-in-Residence at Latitude 53, and Suzette Chan, writer for Sequential Tart Web Zine, fans and close friends of Gilbert. Part of the Gilbert Bouchard Memorial Art Show.
