Writer and storyteller Ivan Coyote and writer and musician Rae Spoon bring together words, sounds and original music in their new show “Gender Failure”, an exploration and expose of their failed attempts at fitting into the gender binary, and ultimately, how the gender binary fails us all. Monday November 26, 6pm, Trans Film Screening, William Doo Auditorium, 45 Willcocks St., free

A free screening of Pay it No Mind: Marsha P. Johnston and Remember Me in Red. Pay it No Mind is a documentary about the revolutionary trans activist, Stonewall instigator, Andy Warhol model, drag queen, sex worker and generous New York character Marsha P. Johnston. Remember Me in Red questions how even when we choose to be our most authentic selves in our lives, how will be remembered in death?

Friday November 30, 9:30pm, Game of Thrones: A Dirty Dance with Dragons, Club 120 (formerly Goodhandy’s, 120 Church St.) $15/$20

Yep, it’s Game of Thrones-themed burlesque. This will either mean everything to you or nothing at all. Regardless, the opportunities for bad puns are endless. I can’t wait to check out Ned Stark Naked.

MONTREAL

Friday November 30, 9pm, 24 Hour XXX Mystery Cabaret Show, Café Cleopatra, 1230 St. Laurent, $10/$12

What is a 24 Hour XXX Mystery Cabaret you ask? We’ve taken a Christmas classic (either How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, or Frosty the Snowman) and made it nice and naughty with only 24 hours of preparation. Check out a hilarious preview of the event here: (NSFW, probably)

Friday, November 30 (artist talk)  to Saturday December 1 – tomato canning, 9pm, The Sensorium at the Greenhouse feat. Botanical Animal, Concordia Greenhouse, 1455 de Maisonneuve O., 12th floor + follow signs to the 13th floor.

This is a two-part encounter with Toronto artist Amanda Marya White, as she presents Botanical Animal. Amanda is a multimedia artist whose work explores the relationships between people, cities, and ecology. During the artist talk, Amanda will introduce her body of work in a range of media from drawing to performance and interventions, with a special focus on food-related projects. This will provide a context for the tomato-canning event to take place the following day, where participants will be invited to can tomatoes together while experiencing a multimedia installation by Amanda, including drawings, photographic documentation, and plants. This installation emerges from an ongoing project in which Amanda develops a closed-loop system for growing her own tomatoes. Participants will take home the fruits of their labour.

VANCOUVER

Wednesday November 28, 7pm-10pm, Remembering Lenore Herb, Cineworks Studio, 1131 Howe St (back lane entrance) pay what you can

Please join us for a look through the archives of legendary Vancouver videographer Lenore (Coutts) Herb (1947 – 2010). We will be screening selections from her digitized archive with the aim to remember, locate, and identify the countless names and faces documented in Herb’s extensive archive. There will be time to pause and reflect between each section for discussions and breaks. Portions of this evening may be recorded for archival purposes.

HALIFAX

Friday November 30, 6pm, Critical Mass November, Victoria Park

Haligonians – get out and enjoy the streets while they’re still covered in beautiful autumn leaves. And don’t forget to bring your little blinking lights and reflectors; it’s gonna get dark out there. As always, we meet at Victoria Park, on the corner of Spring Garden Road and South Park Street.
