Found on the Internet: Long Weekends

Illustration by Paul Hammond originally conceived for the band Long Weekends. Look at more of Paul’s work here. Listen to Long Weekends here.

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, the beer is cooling in the “ice box” and while there may be a political kerfuffle here and there, overall the next few days seem to be stretching forth into lovely oblivion. So before you race out the door to hop on your bike or your skateboard or your Segway, hang out with us for a minute and look at some cool shit we saw on the Internet, okay? Just for a sec.

SEND ME YOUR MUSIC AND YOUR FUCKED-UP DRAWINGS: Now that we’re getting our acts together and hopefully posting Found on the Internet more regularly, it would be cool to begin each post with a cartoon and a band or maybe a photo of a person doing something interesting or Safe For Work-bizarre. So yeah, I’m just going to start picking stuff until you start sending me things. Email me at [email protected] if you want me to feature your work in this blog-thing!

All Saints: Nope, this post isn’t about those British girl R & B singers who did that song about never ever, and suchlike. TRICKED YOU. My buddy Vanessa posted this great link the other day to artist Spencer Salberg’s drawings of female pop culture icons as saints. My favorite is Dana Scully: Our Lady of Skepticism (see below.) You should go buy some prints. Thanks for the tip Vanessa!

Please go look at the artist Spencer Salberg’s Tumblr

The Untitled Black Lesbian Elder Project: This is a feature-length documentary featuring the stories of black lesbian pioneers from various eras – the 60s, the 70s, the 80s and earlier, and it aims to situate these women in the historical movements that shaped the United States, as well as examining underground movements. From the film’s website: “(The film’s) primary mission is to ensure that the history of the black lesbian community is not lost amongst the new wave of documentary-based projects that are  exploring the women’s rights movement in the United States as well as a  range of black American movements.”

You can watch a short interview clip below. This wonderful project is still in the fundraising stage, so please check out the film’s website and look around, and maybe donate a few dollars towards its completion.
