Canzine West Vendors: Sad Mag

Ahead of Canzine West, we will be doing short profiles of some vendors we’d like you to know about. If you like what you see, please come support their work at Canzine West on Saturday November 2!

We are happy to see that Sad Mag will be joining us, represented by co-editor in chief Michelle Reid and creative director Katie Stewart.

Sad Mag covers emerging indie art and culture in Vancouver, centering around the writing, art and photography of people aged 15-30. They’ve been doing this since 2009.

Something that’s really cool about Sad is that they don’t publish digital photography – all mag photos were shot on film or Polaroid. This gives the publication a beautifully fresh and artful look…gritty and human. Another great thing about Sad is they are particularly devoted to the queer arts community in Vancouver. One of my favorite covers of theirs is the knee-shakingly lovely Issue 7/8, on Vancouver’s queer history:

If you have any great story ideas related to indie arts and culture in Van City, get in touch to contribute.
Sad will be featuring their latest Fall 2013 issue on “Fantasy” at Canzine West. Come next Saturday and find out more about this gorgeous, unique publication.
