Canzine Vendors: Meat Locker Editions

Ahead of Canzine 2013, we will be doing short profiles of some vendors we’d like you to know about. If you like what you see, please come support their work at Canzine on Sunday, October 20

If you stumble on a bike jampacked with books inside Canzine, chances are it belongs to Meat Locker Editions, an up-and-coming nonprofit arts organization hoping to serve you literature as raw as possible.

Meat Locker Editions is a small press aiming big. Besides running a small press devoted to underrepresented voices — especially young women — in the lit scene, Meat Locker also features  speakers in a monthly speaking event called the Underdog Poets Academy. Every last Sunday of the month, writers of all backgrounds meet at The Central for guest speaking and an open mic.

At the moment, Meat Locker is promoting Gross by Dave Proctor, a novel about a dead man’s stomach. After Frank, a baker, contacts celiac disease, he punishes himself and his guts. Light bulbs and tin paint cans are among the 144 odd things Frank ingests before kicking the bucket. You can devour Gross when it premiers on Nov. 13 and check out Meat Locker this Sunday at Canzine.
