Canzine Portraits: White Rabbit Quarterly

Look for the White Rabbit this Sunday at Canzine West, a quarterly literary digest published by die-hard print fan Michael Cook. Founded last year, the White Rabbit Quarterly has published three  issues as well as a mini-zine so far. The paper lives and dies by the paper page, with no online presence beyond an email address and a Facebook page. Drawn to the power of ink and paper, Cook is a strong believer in print. On the eve of Canzine West, we give you a Q&A introduction to the the creator you can meet in the flesh tomorrow at Canzine West

For those going to Canzine for the first time, how you would you describe the event?

It’s the best opportunity to see what’s going on in independent publishing in Vancouver. There’s a real sense of community: entertaining readings, valuable workshops and tons of cool zines to pick up.

 Tell us about White Rabbit.

It’s a literary digest that is only available in print. We believe that digital media has been detrimental to literature and photography. Our full issues have all been free and we intend to keep it that way. The White Rabbits are what my friends and I used to call our crew. I knew I wanted to get my friends involved as much as possible and all my creative endeavours are really meant for them.

What are you looking forward to most at Canzine this year?

The chance to show people what we’ve been up to, as well as seeing what everyone else has published in 2011 so far.
